Lifestyle Choices Affecting Acne

Laundry

Fabric Softener
Do not use this in the washer and/or the dryer (no dryer sheets). The waxy residue gets on your pillowcases, towels, wash cloths, and sheets that have direct contact with the skin. The residue will clog pores of acne-prone individuals. If you want something to stop static cling in your dryer, you can get anti- static balls at Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, or online.

Detergent
Detergents with fragrance can cause skin irritation. Best to use fragrance-free such as Cheer Free, All Free & Clear, Tide Free, and DREFT.

No Water Softeners
There is some evidence that water softeners can lead to acne, especially those containing high amounts of potassium chloride.

Ladies and Gentlemen with Chafing Issues
If you are prone to regular friction, from movement, causing chafing in the inner thighs, inner glutes, armpits and nipples. We highly recommend using a fragrance-free detergent like DREFT. Many of our business men and women experience chafing when they wear dry cleaned clothing. Their sweat and dead skin that attaches to the dry cleaned clothing and the solutions used for dry cleaning often causes more irritation. We recommend using briefs, boy short underwear and/or undergarments washed with fragrance free detergents that can act a barrier between the dry cleaned clothing to prevent further rashes and sometimes acne irritation. Cotton is always preferred over the polyester and spandex.
